Ida Lovis Hüsing has won the competition “Art in architecture (Kunst am Bau)” organized by Studentenwerk Leipzig! The competition, which was aimed at students of the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (HGB – Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig), was looking for a creative concept for the Cafeteria Mensa am Park, that combines art and our everyday room. Ida Lovis Hüsing convinced the jury with a blue-grey wall painting with an applied installation of different colored clay plates. Each plate is handmade and echoes the lines of the painting underneath in shades of yellow, orange and red. The jury praised her creative approach, originality and aesthetic realization. The artist receives prize money of 4,000 euros.
The competition “Kunst am Bau” started in June 2024 and took place in two stages. In the first stage, students submitted a first draft, with a total of ten students taking part. A jury consisting of two members of the HGB, three members of the Studentenwerk and two other independent members with artistic training assessed the designs according to criteria such as creativity, aesthetic effect and realisability. Five works made it through to the second round, from which the jury selected the winner.
In view of the large number of impressive works, it was a particularly challenging task for the jury to select a winner. We would like to thank all participants for their inspiring ideas and interesting pieces of art! Ida Lovis Hüsing plans to start the implementation of her concept in the Cafeteria Mensa am Park shortly. Congratulations to the winner and good luck with the realization!
