Studentenwerk Leipzig welcomes all new and returning students for the summer semester 2025! We offer a wide range of advice and services for studying and living in Leipzig.
Information about our services
Mensas & Cafeterias
We operate eight canteens and seven cafeterias at various university locations throughout Leipzig. With the start of the lecture period in the summer semester, our canteens and cafeterias will reopen at the usual times.
Tip: However, you have the option of enjoying your drinks (and food) on site or taking them with you in free, environmentally friendly reusable packaging.
Payment is only possible with a valid student or staff ID card or the Mensa card. Register for AutoLoad today to have your card conveniently and easily topped up at the cash desk! Cash payment is not possible.

Student housing
Our administrators and janitors can be reached by phone or email during office hours.
Telephone office hours of the clerks:
- Tuesdays 1pm – 4pm
- Thursdays 9am – 11am and 1pm – 3pm
- Fridays 9am – 11am
You can come to the personal office hours on site by prior appointment (information on making an appointment will be provided when you move in).
Please note: There are still places available in our student residences in the summer semester 2025. If you are a student, you can apply for a place in a hall of residence immediately.
BAföG Office
BAföG? It works with us! The Studentenwerk Leipzig is also home to the Department for Grants – your first point of contact for BAföG. An application is worthwhile in many cases – even if you are unsure whether you are eligible. Simply apply digitally!

Counseling Services
Social Counseling
The Social Counseling Service offers telephone consultations without an appointment (Tuesdays 9 am to 11 am on +49 1761 9659 674) and individual counseling by prior appointment.
Psychosocial Counseling
The Psychosocial Counseling Service offers Counseling sessions and Short Consultations by prior appointment. You can also use the open Telephone Counseling hours. There are both online and face-to-face workshops for the summer semester.
Legal Assistance
You can make use of the free legal advice service on Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. by telephone or in person on site. You can find all information on the Legal Assistance page.
International students
International students can find out about our various offers on our website. Our Tutors are once again offering various events in the summer semester to get to know other students as well as Leipzig and the surrounding area. An information event for prospective international students will take place on 30 April 2025.
Cultural Funding
We support student culture! The funds are awarded on application. Please inform yourself first on our pages on Cultural Funding.
Student Job Office
With our Student Job Office, everyone can find the right job alongside their studies. The Job Office offers appointments to activate your profile after booking an appointment in advance. The Job Office process takes place online.
Do-it-yourself repair shops for bicyclists
There are three Do-it-yourself repair shops and bicycle repair stations for students, which are financed by the Mobility Fund. You can repair your own bikes there free of charge. Students can carry out minor repairs independently and spontaneously at a total of five bicycle repair stations.
Information days
On 30 April 2025, the Studentenwerk Leipzig is organizing an information day for international prospective students in cooperation with HTWK Leipzig University of Applied Sciences and Leipzig University.
