After eleven years of close cooperation, Studentenwerk Leipzig says goodbye to the University Rector Prof. Dr. Beate Schücking.

The first woman to head the University of Leipzig, Prof. Dr Beate Schücking, has left the university at the end of her second term of office on 31 March 2022. Eleven years of "marriage-like partnership", as Schücking herself describes it, lie behind the Studentenwerk Leipzig and the former university rector. Schücking considered the services and offers of the Studentenwerk to be really important for academic success – as the basis for successful studies.

On the occasion of her retirement, the Studentenwerk Leipzig presented her with a sour cherry. The tree was planted on 7 April 2022 by Prof. Dr. Beate Schücking together with Dr. Andrea Diekhof (Managing Director of the Studentenwerk) and Dominik Schwarz (Chairman of the Administrative Board at the Studentenwerk Leipzig) on the grounds of the Studentenwerk between the daycare centre "Villa Unifratz" and the student residences at Bornaische Straße 138 – an idyllic meadow area in the south of Leipzig near the Auwald forest.

Here, the former rector can briefly escape from everyday city life and remain connected to the Studentenwerk Leipzig in the future. At the same time, she always has the perhaps upcoming Leipzig student generation of our neighbouring kindergarten in mind. The children of "Villa Unifratz" will also have something from the tree for a long time, because – with the ex-rector's permission – they are allowed to harvest the cherries.

We would like to thank Prof. Dr. Beate Schücking for her many years of support for the Studentenwerk Leipzig, her commitment on the Administrative Board and her constructive cooperation in a spirit of partnership!
