Provisional cards for international students

We offer a provisional Mensa card as well as a provisional MDV travel ticket (to substitute the regular MDV Semesterticket).

You are from a foreign country and are just starting to study in Leipzig? If you do not yet possess a student card (UniCard) at the start of the semester, do not worry! 

• You can use the provisional Mensa card for cashless payment in our student restaurants & cafeterias, until you will receive your UniCard. The provisional Mensa card expires on 30 April 2017. From then on, only the UniCard will work.
• For the provisional Mensa card, a deposit of 10 € must be paid. Remaining credit can be transferred from the provisional Mensa card to the UniCard. Do not forget to bring your provisional Mensa card!
• The provisional MDV travel ticket allows you to use all busses and trains of the Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund (MDV), the Central German public transport network. The card expires on 30 April 2017. From then on, only the UniCard will be accepted. For ticket controls, carry a photo identification and the Certificate of Matriculation with you while you travel.
• From 1 May 2017, both the provisional Mensa card and the provisional MDV travel ticket will expire. From then on, only the UniCard will be valid.
• From 1 May 2017 at the latest, the UniCard with a valid imprint MDV will be your valid travel ticket for the MDV region (the region covered by the Central German public transport network). Moreover, you can use the UniCard for cashless payment in our student restaurants & cafeterias.
• Newly registered international students of the University of Leipzig will only receive the provisional Mensa card or the provisional MDV travel ticket if they are not able to use their UniCard on 1 April 2017. In order to receive them you need to bring your Certificate of Matriculation as well as a photo identification.
• As soon as you have received your UniCard, please return the provisional Mensa card to the Student Service Centre (see below).

From 27 March 2017, the provisional Mensa card and the provisional MDV travel ticket will be issued at and can be returned to the following location:

Studentenwerk in the Student Service Centre SSZ (Goethestraße 6, ground floor)
Mon, Wed 12:00am – 3:00pm / Tue, Thu 9:00am – 5:00pm /
Fri 9:00am – 12:00am
