New photo exhibition shows “Equator-Contrasts”

Nikolaus Neidhardt believes that contrasts shape our lives. In his eyes, they are an elementary part of the world around us and appear in various forms, for example visually, atmospherically or in terms of content.

In the new photo exhibition at the Studentenwerk, he attempts to capture different types of contrasts. The majority of the pictures were taken in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar in 2024, where like everywhere in the world, contrasts are pervasive, as Nikolaus Neidhardt says. Green and brown, rich and poor, dry and rainy or hectic and quiet – Nikolaus Neidhardt captures some of these contrasts in his pictures. Similar antagonisms can also be found in Germany, which is why some of the pictures are from Leipzig or Hamburg.

Nikolaus Neidhardt was born in Dresden in 2002. He has been studying history and journalism in Leipzig since 2023. He also works as a freelance editor for various media, such as the LVZ.

The exhibition will be on display in the corridors on the first and second floors of Studentenwerk Leipzig (Goethestr. 6) until the end of December 2024.

You want to organise an own photo exhibition?

Students who would like to display their photographs in an exhibition are welcome to apply to the Studentenwerk Leipzig. The theme of the exhibition can be freely selected by the student. 24 frames sized 59.4 x 84 cm each can be shown in the exhibition spaces in the hallways of the 1st and 2nd floor at Goethestraße 6. The exhibitions are usually shown for two months.

The exhibitions are financed by Studentenwerk Leipzig’s Cultural Funding.

The student photographers must be enrolled in one of the eight Leipzig Universities/Academies, which are associated with the Studentenwerk Leipzig, for the whole course of the exhibition.
