The Studentenwerk Leipzig is legally mandated to provide Student Halls of Residence in good, rentable condition at socially acceptable rental rates for Leipzig students while operating on a cost-covering basis.

To ensure the long-term availability and high occupancy rates in Student Halls of Residence, regular maintenance is essential. However, rising costs in recent years, and especially now, have made it impossible for rental income allocated for maintenance to cover actual maintenance expenses.

For this reason, we are unfortunately compelled to increase the fixed flat-rate rent for our Student Halls of Residence starting 1 February 2025. Across all 5,200 residential spaces, the average rent increase will be 10 € per place per month. Depending on the type of accommodation, the increase could reach up to 40 € per place per month in some cases. This primarily affects single rooms in two-person shared apartments, which have long been maintained at low rent levels without adjustment, as well as studio apartments. For special housing forms, such as two-room apartments, a monthly increase of up to 60 € will be necessary.

The revised rent has been communicated to all tenants through a specific notice delivered to their mailboxes.

We understand the financial challenges this adjustment poses to our tenants and will continue to work with student representatives and representatives from universities and other Studentenwerk organizations to advocate for governmental relief measures. These efforts aim to mitigate the inflation-related burdens on students and Studentenwerk institutions as much as possible.

For any questions or concerns related to the upcoming rent adjustments, tenants can contact the Student Housing Office or the Social Counselling Service at Studentenwerk Leipzig.
