State elections will be held in Saxony on 1. September 2024. The result of this election will also have an impact on the four Saxon Studentenwerke Chemnitz-Zwickau, Dresden, Freiberg and Leipzig.
Together, they sent six questions to the political parties in Saxony. The parties were asked to make it clear where they stand on the concerns of the Studentenwerke. The questions mainly concerned the funding of our canteens and social counselling services, the implementation of the e-file in our BAföG offices and the integration of international students.
In order to stress how exactly parties in Saxony position themselves in these regards, Saxon Studentenwerke created Wahlprüfsteine from their questions and the parties’ answers. Wahlprüfstein is a German term for a public compendium of people’s questions and the parties’ answers.
The parties CDU, SPD, Bündnis 90/ Die Grünen and Die Linke have expressed their views on our questions. The AfD and BSW parties did not send any answers. The booklet Wahlprüfsteine der sächsischen Studentenwerke 2024 now provides a quick overview of the parties’ answers to our six questions.
The four Saxon Studentenwerke Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz-Zwickau and Freiberg are public-law institutions with non-profit status and look after around 100,000 students at 23 Saxon universities on behalf of the Free State of Saxony. They provide the social infrastructure at the Saxon university locations to ensure equal opportunities for young people. With their work, the Studentenwerke make a decisive contribution to the attractiveness of Saxony’s higher education landscape.
