Deutschland-Semesterticket to be continued – fee increase from winter semester 2025/26

Straßenbahn an der Haltestelle Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Sachsen, Deutschland

The Administrative Board of Studentenwerk Leipzig has decided to continue the Deutschlandsemesterticket from the winter semester 2025/26 despite the ticket price increase. The student representatives of the seven universities assigned to Studentenwerk Leipzig and the Semesterticketausschuss had previously spoken out in favour of continuing the ticket.

After the price of the Deutschlandticket was increased from 49 euros to 58 euros per month at the beginning of 2025, the price of the Deutschland-Semesterticket for students will also rise from 176.40 euros to 208.80 euros per semester from the winter semester 2025/26. This means that the semester fee will increase overall for the winter semester 2025/26, which, in addition to the semester ticket, includes other components such as contributions for social services, the catering services of the canteens and the mobility fund of the Studentenwerk as well as the contribution to the respective student council.

Students are asked to take the new fee amount into account when enrolling or re-registering for the winter semester 2025/26. The exact amount of the semester fee will be communicated by the respective university.

The new fee regulations of Studentenwerk Leipzig officially came into force with the publication in the Sächsischen Amtsblatt on 13 March 2025.

Currently, the Deutschland-Semesterticket in the solidarity model with mandatory purchase for the respective semester by the entire student body of a university receives a discount of 40% on the price of the Deutschlandticket; therefore, as the price of the Deutschlandticket increases, so does the price of the Deutschlandsemesterticket.
