As of 1 August, meal prices in the Mensas and Cafeterias will be increased in almost all meal categories by 0.10 to 1.10 euros per meal for employees of the universities and the Studentenwerk and by 0.60 to 1.20 euros per meal for guests of the university.
For students, only a selective price increase is planned for some of the meals on offer from 1 August: they will then pay 10 to 75 cents more per meal for the following categories:
- Pizza
- Premium main components(e.g. Seitan „Sauerbratenart“ or pork loin steak with honey mustard sauce)
- Categorie D (e.g. Köttbullar with sweet potato puree)
- Categorie E (e.g. Pollack fillet in crispy breading with fried potatoes, beans and tartar sauce).
The price for a small salad will be increased by 10 cents to 1.70 euros. All other meal prices will remain stable for the time being.
Dr Andrea Diekhof, Managing Director of Studentenwerk Leipzig, explained that Studentenwerk Leipzig had long tried to compensate for the inflation-related price increases in the use of goods, energy, maintenance and staff in other ways. However, due to the ongoing inflationary developments, we are now forced to implement a fundamental price increase after five years for Mensa meals in almost all categories. Thanks to the subsidy from the Free State of Saxony for ongoing operations, the prices for student meals can still be kept largely constant this year. Whether this will be possible next year depends on the upcoming double budget and further inflationary developments.
