There are regular promotions in our Mensas and Cafeterias, such as Christmas week with special dishes or the ‘Tandem Campaign’, in which regional specialities are exchanged. We make sure you never get bored with what we have to offer, and always get new highlights on your plate.
Regio-Teller
On the first Thursday of the month, we offer the Regio-Teller (Regional plate) in our large Mensas. The ingredients are sourced from producers in the wider Leipzig area, within a maximum radius of 100 kilometres. With the Regio-Teller, we want to support regional producers and bring sustainability to the plate.
On the Regio-Teller you will find the colourful variety of the respective season – this ensures variety on your plate. In addition, the Regio-Teller contains mainly natural and barely processed ingredients. Perhaps we can surprise you on the Regio-Teller with vegetables that may have already been forgotten.
Short transport routes not only save us a lot of CO2. Long transport routes also lead to a loss of quality and nutrients in fruit and vegetables, which we avoid: With the Regio-Teller, you get fruit and vegetables that have been harvested when ripe. This means that all the flavours and secondary plant substances are optimally developed, in contrast to produce that has been harvested unripe for transport and still has to ripen before it can be eaten.
To show you exactly where our ingredients for the Regio-Teller come from, you will find a display at the serving counter on the day of the offer, on which the details of the local producers are listed.

Christmas week
Every year, we have a Christmas week in the run-up to Christmas as a thank you to our guests. Throughout the week, we offer a variety of festive dishes, including traditional and creative ones, with or without meat, and some vegan options – there’s something for everyone. You can look forward to a festive atmosphere in our Mensas and Cafeterias.
With the Christmas week, in which we offer particularly high-quality dishes, we would like to thank you for your loyalty and offer you a culinary highlight in the run-up to Christmas!
Tandem Campaign
The “Aktion Tandem” (Tandem Campaign) is a marketing initiative of the East German Student Unions with always two student unions at a time forming so-called “tandems“ and introducing local cuisine and other specialties to each other in their student restaurants. Exchanging experiences between the cooking teams is an integral part of the Tandem Campaign. It is very important to think outside the box and see what others – in a very literal sense – bring to the table.
Studentenwerk Leipzig has been participating in this campaign since 2006 and has so far introduced Saxon cuisine to the cities of Greifswald, Berlin, Frankfurt (Oder), Magdeburg, Erlangen, and Munich. In return, cooking teams of these cities‘ student unions have visited a student restaurant in Leipzig and brought their own local specialties on the table.
