The Studentenwerk has been running the smallest day care centre in the whole of Leipzig as a provider of voluntary youth welfare since the start of the 1996/97 winter semester – the “Villa Unifratz”.The historic villa, which serves as a student residence and children’s day care centre, is located in the middle of a green area on Bornaische Straße in the south of the city. The facility offers a familiar atmosphere, as only 30 children are cared for from their 1st birthday until they start school. Located in the south of Leipzig, the former manor house is mainly inhabited by students with children.

A personal account
“A wonderful kindergarten that I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone. The teachers live their profession, my child is in very good hands. The children are cared for here with a lot of warmth and love, they are encouraged individually and there is also a lot of crafting and playing. They also made time for me as a parent and went out of their way to answer my questions and give me advice when I needed it. As a single mum who was going through a separation, I needed people to be considerate of my child’s new situation, who had a lot to deal with, and the teachers were a great help to my son and me.
What I found very nice, in addition to the many everyday activities, were the excursions with the children to the nearby playgrounds, parks and the horse farm.
This is an incredibly caring and well-organised daycare centre where my son makes wonderful childhood memories.”
