Information for students
- How does the job office work?
Are you interested in a job offered on our job portal? We compiled the most important facts for you in the following steps. For information about employers, please read further down below on this page.
1. Register online
To use the job portal, it is required that the person looking for a job is enrolled properly at a university or academy in Leipzig, for which Studentenwerk Leipzig provides its services. If a job cannot be placed with students in Leipzig, students from other public German universities may indicate their interest. The certificate of enrolment of the current semester serves as proof.
Who meets this requirement can register with our job portal. For step-by-step instructions on the registration, please read here. Personal details and documents are required for the registration (see next question: “Which documents are required?”).
2. Activation of your profile
A newly created profile is activated once by the student job office. To do so, either use our office hours on site and book an appointment via the scheduling tool or send us a scan of your ID card or passport by e-mail. Please be sure to include your student ID for that purpose.
The current confirmation of enrollment must be registered in the user account every semester. If you registered a new certificate of enrollment, please write us a brief e-mail so that we can update your profile.
3. Find a job match
You will find all job offers that the job office is in charge of in our job portal. When choosing a job, it is important to carefully check whether you can actually comply with the necessary requirements and working hours.
After your profile has been activated, you can be placed for the jobs offered in our portal by clicking the “Start placement process” button.
When you started the placement process for a job offer, the tool automatically identifies this and is activated by the counsellors. You do not have to contact us additionally. Please contact the employer as fast as possible. If you are not interested in the placement anymore, you can cancel your interest via your account under the menu point “placed jobs” again.
4. Contact the employer
After you were assigned with a job, you will be given the employer’s contact data and have to contact the employer by yourself.
At the same time, your contact details will be forwarded to the employer. From that time, the employer expects you to contact him or her. Therefore, you should better think twice whether or not you want to accept the job.
5. Give Feedback
To improve the quality of our job offers and represent the placement process in a transparent way, students are given the opportunity to rate employers.
Simply leaf through our job offers. Maybe you will find a job! We look forward to your visit!

Questions & Answers
- Why is it possible that the start date of the job is in the past?
It is technically impossible to enter “from now”. This why a date in the past is shown, which is usually the day the ad was published and the earliest possible date to start the job. That does not mean the job is not available anymore.
- How many jobs can I choose? And why?
You can get a maximum of three job offers. You should have the opportunity to contact the employer and/or to submit your application.
- What about jobs for which I cannot press the “Start placement process”, but which are still published on the website?
For such jobs the quota of placements is exhausted, but since experience has shown that not all placements lead to a hire, it is always worthwhile to ask the job office again as long as the job is posted.
- What do I have to keep in mind when I want to work self-employed as a student?
Interesting jobs for students are often advertised as self-employed work, e.g. freelance work and you have to consider several challenges in this regard. If you have any further questions, you are welcome to come to our Social Counselling department for a personal consultation.
