All student restaurants and cafeterias will reopen at the start of the semester, though operating under limited conditions and taking infection control precautions. Takeaway services will also remain open.
At the start of the semester on October 4, all our Mensas and Cafeterias will reopen for the consumption of food and beverages on site, subject to infection control precautions!
Hygiene conditions and restrictions
In accordance with the current Saxon Covid-19 Protection Ordinance, our refectories and cafeterias are considered non-public facilities, which means that compliance with 3G rules is not necessary. Nevertheless, the following AHA+L+A rules and hygiene requirements apply in principle:
We can increase the previous seating capacity of 20% (each chair stands 1.50 meters away from the next chair) to an average of 60% under the current general hygiene regulations. Another new feature is that groups of dining room users who know each other will be allowed again to sit closer together while eating. A distance of 1.50 meters must only be maintained from unknown third parties.
In order to minimize waiting times and cater to as many guests as possible, the seats are currently only available for consuming food and drinks, but not for longer stays. Bottlenecks cannot be ruled out due to the lower seating capacity. As an alternative to consumption on site, the takeaway service will therefore be maintained as well.
Instead of the usual self-service during normal operation, food, trays, and cutlery will only be served by the cafeteria staff for infection control reasons. Payment is only possible by Mensa card, payment by cash is still unavailable. (Tip: Register for AutoLoad!)
Contact information is collected via the Corona Warn App or alternatively in analog form. The current hygiene requirements in student restaurants and cafeterias will be in effect until 20 October 2021, until further notice.
Further restrictions due to less staff
Employees in student restaurants and cafeterias have been working reduced hours since April 2020; expiring employment contracts were not renewed during this time. At the start of the semester, all employees in the student restaurants and cafeterias will be taken off short-time work and reenter regular employment. However, the personnel capacities required for full-scale normal operation cannot be rebuilt until the infection situation has stabilized on a sustained basis. For that reason, the semester will be started with a reduced range of services and modified opening hours.
