The Federal Ministry of Education and Research will continue to offer Bridging Assistance for Students in Financial Difficulties until September 2021. We also updated the FAQs to make it easier to apply for funding.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has decided to continuously provide Bridging Assistance to students for the entire summer semester 2021. Leipzig students in pandemic-related emergencies can thus apply for the grant at the Studentenwerk Leipzig until September 2021.
The BMBF provides the Bridging Assistance for students in pandemic related emergency situations via the Deutsches Studentenwerk and sets the guidelines for the framework conditions of the funding. This aid was launched in the first lockdown and relaunched in November 2020. Since June 2020, the deutsches Studentenwerk has received more than 460,000 applications, of which more than 300,000 have been approved. In January 2021, the approval rate was 75 per cent and in February 2021 76 per cent of all applications have been approved. In the meantime, a total of around 135 million euros have been granted to students in the form of non-repayable grants.
In order to facilitate the application process, the most important questions and answers regarding the bridging assistance have been amended and updated. This should make it possible for all students to get sufficient information about the bridging assistance and to enable them to apply for it for themselves.
