Increase in the semester fee from summer semester 2025

Studentenwerk Leipzig is increasing the semester fee by 10 euros for the summer semester 2025. This is due to salary adjustments in the Ländertarifvertrag and high costs in connection with inflation.

The semester contribution to Studentenwerk Leipzig will increase by 10 euros per student from the summer semester 2025, from 80 to 90 euros per semester. The increased fee will go entirely towards the Mensas and Cafeterias. The corresponding adjustment to the fee regulations was approved by the Verwaltungsrat of the Studentenwerk Leipzig on November 4 and is now legally binding.

For the year 2025, the latest wage increases in the Tarifvertrag der Länder will result in additional costs of around 800,000 euros for the wages of employees in the Mensas and Cafeterias. Added to this are the continuing very high costs for the use of goods, energy and maintenance in connection with inflation.

Dr. Andrea Diekhof, Managing Director of Studentenwerk Leipzig, explained that the semester fee increase was unavoidable. In order to counteract the rising costs, all optimization options have already been exhausted. The decision had been made not to increase meal prices in the Mensas, as many students were already severely affected by inflation. Instead, the solidarity contribution will be raised for everyone. Ms Diekhof very much hopes that the Freistaat Sachsen will increase its share of funding for the ongoing operation of the Saxon Studentenwerke in line with cost developments for the upcoming 2025/26 double budget.
