Vegan-friendly: Mensa am Medizincampus awarded by PETA

After being recognized as a vegan-friendly Mensa by the animal rights organization PETA Germany last year, the Mensa am Medizincampus has once again been awarded three stars this year, earning a place among the “Top Vegan-Friendly Mensas.”

The evaluation criteria for the “Most Vegan-Friendly Mensa 2024” focused primarily on the daily selection of vegan dishes, special staff training for preparing vegan meals, the availability of plant-based drinks for coffee specialties, and actions related to veganism. The overall concept and the Mensa’s development over the years also played a role in the assessment.

Since 2012, the Studentenwerk Leipzig has been offering vegan dishes, continuously expanding the range. In the Mensas and Cafeterias, several vegan dishes are available daily, including premium vegan meals, wok dishes, and vegetable plates, as well as vegan snacks and smoothies. Additionally, the Studentenwerk Leipzig has been running a vegan bakery since 2017, producing vegan cakes and pastries for select Mensas and Cafeterias.

This is the eighth time that PETA has surveyed Mensas and Cafeterias on various aspects of vegan nutrition. A total of 37 student unions participated, with awards given in the form of stars, crowning the most vegan-friendly Mensa of 2024.
