Studentenwerk renovates another hall of residence

In June, Studentenwerk Leipzig’s next construction project starts with the maintenance work in the Johannes-R.-Becher-Straße 11A hall of residence. With around 900 places, the student residence at Johannes-R.-Becher-Straße 3-11 is Studentenwerk Leipzig’s second-largest residential complex. In house no. 11A with 93 places, a maintenance measure for the building services (water, ventilation, sanitary facilities) will be carried out from June to September 2024. The planned costs of approx. 1.5 million euros will be borne by the Studentenwerk from its own funds. A further approx. 300,000 euros will be spent on refitting kitchens and furniture.

Re-letting is already planned for the winter semester 2024/25. A newly renovated single room in a 2-bed shared apartment in this student residence will then cost between 275 and 290 euros, a single apartment 340 euros – in each case including ancillary costs and furnishings.

In order to keep the approximately 5,200 student residences in Leipzig rentable, Studentenwerk Leipzig has been continuously renovating around 200 to 300 places every year since 2014. Currently and in the coming years, there is a great need for refurbishment in many halls of residence at the same time, especially in the kitchens, bathrooms and supply lines. Thanks to the re-entry of the Freistaat and the federal government into the funding of student residences, Studentenwerk Leipzig can now continue to guarantee affordable rents for students in student residences that meet their needs, despite drastic increases in construction prices.
